Connect with presenters at the Electronic Village at the 45th Annual TESOL Convention and Exhibit (TESOL 2011), March 16-19 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. If you cannot be there in person, join the Convention goers virtually. The CALL Interest Section has organized several presentations to be web cast from the Electronic Village in New Orleans. Critical steps for participating in the Web Cast:

  1. Be sure to join the session 5 – 10 minutes prior to the start.
  2. Set your Connection Speed to the Internet and computer platform (PC or MAC).
  3. CRITICAL: Use the Audio Setup Wizard to test out your microphone and speakers.
  4. Follow and participate in the text chat on the left at any time–raise questions or post comments.
  5. Listen to the presenter(s) and adjust the volume as needed by using the slider.
  6. CRITICAL: To speak, press the microphone icon.
  7. CRITICAL: Release the microphone when finished by pressing it again.

Troubleshooting:

Before the Web Cast:Make sure you can enter the Adobe Connect room by doing the following:

  1. Click on the link for the Webcast Room (under the title of the presentation)
  2. Enter the room as a guest (Type your name in the box and click “Enter”)
  3. Install the Adobe Connect Plug-in (if not already installed)
  4. For further help, view the video from Adobe or download their visual quickstart guide.

Critical steps for participating in the Web Cast:

  • Be sure to join the session 5 – 10 minutes prior to the start.
  • CRITICAL:After entering the Adobe Connect room, set up your speakers and microphone by doing the following:
    1. Click “Meeting” (at the top left of the Adobe Connect window)
    2. Click “Manage My Settings”
    3. Click “Audio Setup Wizard”
    4. Click “Next”
    5. Click “Test” to test the speaker output
    6. Click “Next”
    7. Choose your microphone from the list
    8. NOTE: If Adobe Connect asks permission to use your microphone and/or web camera, click “Allow”
    9. Click “Next”
    10. Click “Record” and speak into your microphone for a few moments
    11. Click the play button to check your recording
    12. If everything is working well, click “Next”
    13. NOTE: A microphone is NOT required to participate in the webcast. You may ask question via text chat.
    14. Click “Test Silence” to check the amount of background noise around you
    15. Click “Next”
    16. Click “Finish”
  • For best results, after entering the Adobe Connect room, set your connection speed by doing the following:
    1. Click “Meeting” (at the top left of the Adobe Connect window)
    2. Click “Manage My Settings”
    3. Click “My Connection Speed”
    4. Choose your connection speed from the list
    5. NOTE: If you are not sure what speed your connection is, leave what Adobe Connect has already chosen.
  • Follow and participate in the text chat on the left at any time–raise questions or post comments.
  • Listen to the presenter(s) and adjust the volume as needed by using the slider.
  • CRITICAL: To raise a question, use the “raise hand” button (bottom-left of the Adobe Connect window).
  • CRITICAL: To speak (when acknowledged by the moderator), press AND HOLD the “Talk” button.
  • CRITICAL: When finished speaking, release the “Talk” button.
